IBM beats Infosys as India's 2nd largest pvt sector employer

While the news that Tata Consultancy Services is India’s largest private sector employer comes as no surprise, what is shocking is the second largest employer in India. This honour goes to IBM.
TCS has hired about 1, 63,700 employees as on June 30, IBM has appointed more than one lakh people in India.
Though no one will admit in IBM’s headquarters in the USA that it has hired so many Indians for the fear of backlash at home, this is a reality which was, hitherto, kept a secret.
According to a report in The Times of India, even though the company’s spokesperson denied commenting about it, a source within the company said that in a couple of years, the India employee strength could cross that in the US, where it employs about 1,55,000 people, and where the pace of hiring is substantially slower than in India.
What is interesting to note is that IBM globally has a little over 4,00,000 employees. So, close to 1 in 3 of its employees is already an Indian.
IBM has been aggressively recruiting in India. If we compare the number of Indian employees in 2006 and 2007, we will see a difference of 20,000 employees. This IT giant was even hiring during recession and has plans to hire more in the coming months.
Another interesting factor to know is that its staff strength is more than four times that of India’s biggest private sector company, Reliance Industries, which recruits about 23,000 people.
Infosys is third largest recruiter which employs around 1.14 lakh employees as on June 30.
